California State Parks is the largest park system in the country and serves over 65 million visitors annually. There are 279 parks in the system consisting of 1.5 million acres, 1,231 miles of waterfront, 625 miles of lake and riverfront, 15,000 campsites, and 3,076 miles of non-motorized trails.
Budget cuts in the State of California mean that for the first time ever in the history of our state, some parks will be forced to close, and services at parks that remain open may be reduced.
• Preserve recreational opportunities for Southern Californians including running,
biking,
skating, picnicking, camping, barbecuing or just relaxing
• Improve water quality through maintenance at beaches and lakes
• Preserve opportunities for social and spiritual enjoyment
• Protect the wildlife that make parks their home
• Protect the natural landscapes that help balance our environment
• Protect our special historical places that tell the history of our great state
